Hardem Eyewear has earned the ecoMVMNT Environmental Seal of Approval for its proactive leadership in sustainable practices. From eco-friendly manufacturing to responsible packaging, the brand is dedicated to creating long-lasting eyewear designed to support the planet over time.

About Hardem Eyewear

Founded in 2015 by Argentinian entrepreneur Nicolás Schirmer, Hardem is a brand built on purpose. Our pursuit of quality focuses not only on aesthetic design and durability but also on the origin of every component. This commitment to conscious craftsmanship is why Hardem’s premium lines exclusively feature eco-friendly bio-acetate.

The Environmental Challenge

The majority of eyewear produced today—particularly mass-market, inexpensive frames—is not environmentally friendly. Most are constructed from non-biodegradable, petroleum-based plastics and metals that inevitably contribute to landfill waste. With the industry generating over two million tons of waste annually through energy-intensive manufacturing and high transportation emissions, the ecological footprint is significant. Furthermore, some traditional lenses contain harmful substances like Bisphenol-A (BPA), which can leach into the environment.

The Hardem Eco-Approach: Bio-Acetate

Bio-acetate is an evolution of traditional acetate. Unlike conventional petroleum-derived plastics, it is a plant-based material. It is primarily composed of cellulose (fiber) extracted from wood pulp or cotton, combined with organic-based plasticizers, achieving a bio-based content of up to 64%.

Bio-acetate represents a major evolution in eyewear materials. Unlike conventional petroleum-derived plastics, it is a plant-based material primarily composed of cellulose fibers extracted from wood pulp or cotton. When combined with organic-based plasticizers, it achieves a bio-based content of up to 64%.

  • Biodegradability: At the end of its life cycle, bio-acetate has a significantly lower environmental impact. Under industrial composting conditions, it reaches a degradation rate of 92.7% in just 180 days, ensuring that your frames do not contribute to microplastic pollution.

  • Clean Chemistry: Processed with organic plasticizers, this material is completely hypoallergenic and safer for prolonged skin contact than traditional acetates.

  • Durability and Aesthetics: Sustainability doesn't mean sacrificing style. Bio-acetate is just as resilient and flexible as standard acetate, allowing for the same handcrafted polishing, technical adjustments, and premium comfort Hardem is known for.

  • Bio-Packaging: As part of our waste reduction policy, Hardem packaging is mindfully designed. Our microfiber cloths are delivered in 100% recycled kraft paper bags, a biodegradable, low-impact material that protects the product without generating unnecessary plastic waste.

See the World Sustainably

Choosing Hardem means choosing a vision that looks forward. By blending high-performance light engineering with earth-conscious materials, we ensure that your style today doesn't compromise the environment of tomorrow.
